Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague sat down with Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke to hear his thoughts on Los Colchoneros memorable year.
The Spain international was heavily linked with a host of European clubs last season, including: Spanish rivals Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich. But the product of Atletico’s youth system ignored the transfer speculation and extended his contract with Los Rojiblancos through 2019.
The midfielder made his debut with the club’s first team in September 2009, and since that time he has helped the Atleti win the Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, Spanish Supercopa, Copa del Rey and La Liga titles.
He also came seconds away from leading his club to a Champions League title last season.
Balague informed Koke that he was named Sky Sports Revista de La Liga’s Best Spanish Player of 2014.
The two men sat down for a five minute interview that covered Atletico Madrid’s amazing 2014 campaign which culminated with Los Colchoneros wrestling the La Liga title away from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona on the final day of the season.
Koke also described his childhood growing up in Madrid, the sacrifices he made while progressing through the club’s youth system, his “emotional” manager Diego Simeone and his team’s expectations for this season.
