In Newcastle and Liverpool this Saturday, thousands of football fans will be marching in protest against the owners of their respective clubs.

Members of a Liverpool supporters group named Spirit Of Shankly will be marching to Anfield in protest against owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett. According to the supporters union, it’ll be “a march of passion, a march of anger, a march of red solidarity that roars its message loud and proud.”

The Liverpool protesters will be meeting at the Liverpool Supporters’ Club on Lower Breck Road at 11am BST.

Incredibly, George Gillett Jr. may attend the match amidst tight security.

In Newcastle, there are two protests planned. The first is by a group named Toon Ultras who will be demonstrating against Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley. The demonstration will start at 2pm outside the Milburn Reception.

The group isn’t advocating a boycott of the match. Instead, they “firmly believe that everyone should give their full support towards the players in a match [they believe they] should easily get three points from. The protest suggested will have flags, banners and of course non-stop singing, getting as much attention as possible.”

Unofficial Newcastle website TalkOfTheTyne.com has organized a march that is planned for 3pm opposite Tilley’s Bar. The protesters will walk to St. James’ Park.

While the protests won’t have a direct impact on Hicks and Gillett, and Ashley, they will put pressure on the owners to sell and raise awareness within the press regarding the fans outrage against the owners.
