Manchester United continued its hot streak on Friday in an FA Cup fixture with Everton. The Red Devils won the matchup 3-1 in front of their home crowd. It was the club’s seventh-consecutive victory in all competitions.

The two teams entered Friday heading in two different directions. United had won nine of their last 10 matches. In doing so, the club climbed back into the top four of the Premier League. Everton, on the other hand, hadn’t won a game in their last seven fixtures. In fact, the Merseyside club had just one victory in their last 11 total games.

United strike first just 3 minutes into game against Everton

Antony opened the scoring just 183 seconds into the match. The winger found himself wide open after Marcus Rashford breezed passed defender Ben Godrey. Rashford sent in a low cross, which was met by the outstretched foot of Antony. The Brazilian just had to make contact with the ball to score for his club.

Everton fought back fairly quickly though. Demarai Gray hit the post from distance in the 13th minute of the match. The ball bounced back off of David De Gea before going out for a corner. The Toffees leveled the score just a minute later.

Conor Coady scored his second goal of the campaign after an odd mistake by De Gea. The United goalkeeper chose not to collect a cross sent into the box by Neal Maupay. Instead, the ball trickled through the Spaniard’s legs and Coady pounced from just a few feet away from goal.

The Everton center back scored again in the second half; however, it was into his own net. Rashford once again beat Everton’s defense down the flank, this time it was Seamus Coleman. The England international eventually sent in a pass that Coady put by Jordan Pickford.

Everton thought they had leveled the scoreline once again later in the half. The goal was, however, ruled out with the help of VAR. Demarai Gray displayed some brilliant skill to set up the play, but was in an offside position when he received a pass from Coleman.

United put the game away late in added time. Godfrey brought down substitute Alejandro Garnacho inside the box, despite the contact seeming to be minimal. Rashford finished off his Man of the Match performance with a goal from the spot.

Everton, despite the loss, played fairly well considering their recent form. Nevertheless, pressure is continuing to pile on head coach Frank Lampard. Alternatively, the Red Devils advanced to the FA Cup fourth round for the ninth straight season.
