Manchester United will be playing preseason matches in the United States this summer. The Red Devils announced the American tour on Wednesday, but would not reveal potential opposition.

However, the team’s official statement on the news claimed that United will play a “series of games” throughout “various cities” Stateside. It will be the first time since 2018 that United will play in the United States.

The club’s managing director, John Murtough, claimed United is thrilled to announced the US tour.

“This will be our first visit to the US for five years, and everyone at the club is looking forward to it, especially the players, who love the high-quality facilities, the welcoming atmosphere and passionate support of our large US fanbase,” stated Murtough.

“Tour 2023 will not only see the return of our senior players to training and playing, but there will also be valuable opportunities for up-and-coming talent from our Academy to experience life within the first-team environment, and for our US fans to see some potential stars of the future.”

“We know that Manchester United and the Premier League in general are growing in popularity across the US, so we are looking forward to building on this connection this summer.”

Recent reports suggest United will face Wrexham

While United wait to reveal potential opposition for the American tour, there have been reports that they will play Wrexham. ESPN previously reported that the two clubs face off in San Diego in July. The news outlet claimed that Las Vegas will be a potential host city for the Red Devils as well.

Wrexham previously announced that they will participate in a unique tournament in the US this summer. The 7v7 competition is taking place in North Carolina this June. Winners of the tournament will win a $1 million prize.

Team co-owner Rob McElhenney also revealed a possibly separate US tour as well. The actor claimed back in December that his club will face MLS opposition. “Next year we’re going to do a tour around some of the MLS teams, so that’ll be fun,” McElhenney stated on The Town with Matthew Belloni podcast.
