Leeds and United States men’s national team midfielder Tyler Adams looks set for an extended stay on the sidelines after surgery. The 24-year-old star has reportedly undergone an operation to fix an ailing hamstring problem. According to The Athletic, Adams could very well miss the remainder of the current Premier League campaign.
Adams suffered the injury during training with Leeds on March 18. He initially pulled out of the USMNT squad because of the setback, but the extent of the injury was not yet revealed. The midfielder missed both of his national team fixtures in March.
Tyler Adams a bright spot for Leeds before surgery
Leeds brought in Adams from RB Leipzig last summer in a deal worth around $24 million. Despite the club’s current position in the table, the midfielder has turned out to be a quality addition. In fact, Adams leads all Premier League defensive midfielders in interceptions. Then, he is second in tackles and key passes. He has also been a mainstay in the middle of the pitch for the club. He has started every top flight game that he has been fit for so far this season.
Newly appointed Leeds head coach Javi Gracia now has a bit of a headache looking forward. The West Yorkshire club currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, but are just two points from the relegation zone. Adams is a key player in the middle of the pitch for Leeds and will be a big hole to fill for Gracia.
Key trio could be absent for Arsenal match
Along with Adams, Leeds are also sweating the fitness of Wilfried Gnonto and Max Wöber as well. The duo sustained first-half injuries during their international matches with Italy and Austria respectively. Both players returned to England for further assessment. Gnonto is dealing with an ankle injury, while Wober suffered a hamstring issue.
All three players are vital to Gracia’s side, and the next fixture on the schedule is league leaders Arsenal. Leeds travel to north London to face the Gunners on Saturday, April 1.
