Santiago Gimenez is inching toward a move to Nottingham Forest to become the latest Mexican in the English top flight. The current Feyenoord striker has been the subject of a transfer to several different clubs. A breakout 2023/24 campaign <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/santiago-gimenez-mania-epl-side-emerge-as-early-favorites-20231029-WST-465774.html">linked Gimenez to Tottenham last season</a>. Likewise, <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/west-ham-considering-move-for-feyenoord-and-mexico-striker-20240112-WST-483065.html">West Ham was in</a> on the striker at one point. However, he ended up staying in the Eredivisie to complete the season with Arne Slot’s side. 



Now, though, Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest has reached out to Feyenoord to inquire about the availability of the Mexican. Gimenez is under contract in the Netherlands until the summer of 2027. He opened the 2024/25 campaign in a similar fashion to how he played out the majority of the 2023/24 season. A brace against PEC Zwolle means he has three goal contributions in the side’s opening two games of the season.



Last year, the Mexican scored 23 goals in 30 Eredivisie games with Feyenoord. It was an improvement on the 15 goals he logged in the 2022/23 season, which was his first in the Netherlands. The 23-year-old is showing is therefore demonstrating his consistency and ability to grow, and a move to a club on a bigger stage could be on the cards. Nottingham Forest could use Gimenez as a central striker.



The <a href="https://www.telegraaf.nl/sport/106900583/feyenoord-ontvangt-eerste-bod-op-santiago-gimenez" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">report out of the Rotterdam</a> that is linking Gimenez to the Tricky Trees claims Nottingham Forest is willing to pay just shy of $30 million. Forest made several sales this summer to free up their availability to pursue players. Elliot Anderson, Nikola Milenkovic and Ramon Sosa each cost over $10 million. However, for all the signings Forest has made this summer, a striker is not one. Gimenez is a top prospect among clubs in Europe, and this could be a major grab for Forest.

<h2>Nottingham Forest would be a career-defining move for Santiago Gimenez</h2>



The Mexican has the potential to take his career to new heights after Nottingham Forest if he makes this move. His current trajectory has drawn conversation with the likes of <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/barcelona-and-madrid-set-for-showdown-over-santiago-gimenez-20231102-WST-466901.html">Barcelona and Real Madrid</a>. Those may be too large of a jump for a 23-year-old who has spent two years in European soccer. That makes a transfer to Nottingham Forest more attractive. The quality of opposition would climb greatly compared to the opponents he faces in the Eredivisie. However, he would not have the pressure to perform immediately and at an elite level.



Nottingham Forest has used Chris Wood as its sole striker for over a year now, and the Kiwi has done fairly well all things considered. At the age of 32, he may not provide the spark to the game that Forest may need against stronger sides. That is where Gimenez could be the difference. Gimenez came off the bench just one time last season in the Eredivisie, so it would be a role that may take getting used to. Yet, that could allow him more time to learn how the Premier League operates compared to the top flight in the Netherlands.

The <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/nations/mexico-national-team-tv-schedule/">Mexico</a> international <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/barcelona-and-madrid-set-for-showdown-over-santiago-gimenez-20231102-WST-466901.html">previously</a> garnered links to top teams such as <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/barcelona-tv-schedule/">Barcelona</a> and <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/real-madrid-tv-schedule/">Real Madrid</a>. However, Gimenez wants guaranteed playing time if he departs the Dutch side. This could hinder the Spanish duo’s chances of signing the Mexican in January. 



Gimenez has been in incredible form for Feyenoord during the current campaign. The 22-year-old forward has racked up 20 goals and five assists in just 22 total appearances for the club. The Mexican currently co-leads the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/eredivisie-tv-schedule/">Eredivisie</a> in goals alongside AZ Alkmaar’s Vangelis Pavlidis with 18.



<a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/santiago-gimenez-west-ham-tracking-prolific-feyenoord-striker-smj92xzr7" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Times</a> reports that Feyenoord currently values Gimenez at about $38 million. However, the Dutch side would prefer to hold on to the star until at least the summer. The news outlet suggests that the club believes that the striker’s value will only increase in the coming months.



<h2>Feyenoord’s coach refused to rule out January departure</h2>



While Feyenoord wants to keep Gimenez beyond this month, manager Arne Slot did not exactly 100% rule out a January sale of the striker. “If it is best for the club that he is sold, then so be it,” Slot recently <a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/santiago-gimenez-west-ham-tracking-prolific-feyenoord-striker-smj92xzr7" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">stated</a>. 



“Of course, I will give my arguments, but it is not the case that if Dennis [te Kloese, Feyenoord’s chief executive] convinces me that it must be done, I will hand in my contract the next day.”

“Of course, everyone understands that we prefer to sell at the end of the season. But if an offer is made that cannot be refused, so that we can also pay salaries and transfer fees in the future, as the competition does, then we as Feyenoord may also be able to take the next step.”



Feyenoord is currently second in the Eredivisie standings and would prefer Gimenez to remain with the team to help push for a title. The Dutch side purchased the striker from <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/cruz-azul-tv-schedule/">Cruz Azul</a> in 2022 for around $6 million.



<h2>West Ham could use Santiago Gimenez as reinforcement</h2>



West Ham’s interest in Gimenez is not exactly surprising. Not only do some of the top teams in Europe want the Mexico international. The Hammers could use a true center forward. Michail Antonio is 33 and currently dealing with a knee injury. The club also has Danny Ings. However, the Englishman has only played sparingly this season under manager David Moyes.



With the club thin up front, Moyes has recently opted to deploy Jarrod Bowen as a center forward. The <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/nations/england-national-team-tv-schedule/">England</a> intentional is perhaps the club’s top player. He traditionally plays out on the right flank. Although Bowen has performed well in the new role, signing a true center forward could allow him to play his more familiar position.



<a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/west-ham-tv-schedule/">West Ham</a> also has a recent success of signing players from Eredivisie clubs. Moyes recently grabbed Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez from <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/ajax-tv-schedule/">Ajax</a> earlier this summer. Both players have become key stars in the current Hammers team. Moyes could sell Ings and other fringe players and use the funds on Gimenez before the end of the month.

After scoring 13 goals in 10 games in the Eredivisie this season, Santiago Gimenez has caught the attention of some of Europe’s best teams and become one of the continent’s hottest talents.



The striker has been in fantastic form for Feyenoord in the 2023-24 season, netting an impressive total of 15 goals in 12 games across all competitions. This 22-year-old is currently in his second season in Europe.



In his debut season, he made an immediate impact, scoring 23 goals in 45 appearances shortly after transferring from Cruz Azul in his native country to Feyenoord. The 22-year-old wasted no time breaking into the starting lineup for the Dutch club. And he played a crucial role in his team’s 2022-23 league championship season.



Overall, since joining the Rotterdam side in July 2022 from Cruz Azul, the Mexico international has amassed 38 goals and six assists in 57 games. Thus, it has been reported that many teams, including a <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/santiago-gimenez-mania-epl-side-emerge-as-early-favorites-20231029-WST-465774.html">host of Premier League teams</a>, are interested in signing the forward, despite the fact that his present contract has four more years to go.



Feyenoord are reportedly set to reject any offers for the striker unless they exceed $100 million, a sum that would represent a record sale for the Eredivisie. The situation would not become clear until the summer, however. It is predicted that Xavi Hernandez will bring in Vitor Roque during the forthcoming transfer market. The club’s financial condition is precarious. As a result, it is doubtful that Barcelona is willing to pursue Gimenez before the end of the current campaign.

Barcelona wants to keep ‘watching him carefully’ for the rest of the season. For the ongoing term, Barcelona sporting director Deco wants to fill other spots in the team over a new striker.



This is despite the fact that Robert Lewandowski is the only starter in the team without an obvious successor. He is also the oldest in the squad at 35. Rather, a creative midfielder is the priority. Any interest in the 22-year-old striker might fall on deaf ears until other positions and squad-building ambitions are finalized.



<h2>Real Madrid also keeping an eye</h2>



There are several teams that want to sign Gimenez, not only Barcelona. Morris Pagniello revealed that Barcelona’s <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/history-of-el-clasico-real-madrid-vs-barcelona/">El Clasico</a> rivals, Real Madrid, are also keeping tabs on the Mexican international. The same goes for several other teams.



“We talked about him with Inter, Milan, Lazio and Napoli, but for me, he could be perfect for both Inter and Juventus. They would be the best options for him. I’ve been telling various clubs to believe in him, his value went from €10m to €40m in just under 12 months. Spurs still need to replace <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/tottenham-accepts-bayern-bid-for-harry-kane-20230810-WST-449045.html">Harry Kane</a>, who departed for Bayern Munich, in terms of goal scoring, even if there hasn’t been a need for it up to this point. Moreover, Gimenez is being observed, who scores a goal on average for each ninety minutes he plays.



Actually, the London team first became aware of the player when they were considering Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as a possible manager the previous season. Fabrizio Romano has corroborated the reports of Ange Postecoglou’s side’s interest in Gimenez. Nonetheless, it’s clear that Feyenoord will not be inclined to allow the prolific Mexican striker to depart for a bargain fee during the January transfer window.



“We know very well that many top clubs around Europe are keeping an eye on the boy [Gimenez]. From what I’m hearing, something around $47.6 million could be the right fee to make it happen”, Romano said on his <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73NnzJrkxms&amp;ab_channel=FabrizioRomano" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">YouTube channel</a>.



“Let’s see if [it’s] in the January window or in the summer window. It depends on Feyenoord, more than on the player. The interest of many clubs is there. I think we saw Tottenham linked because from what I’m told, Tottenham scouts have been following the player already last year.



“While they were following the [Feyenoord] manager [Arne Slot] they saw that Santi Gimenez is absolutely a very good striker. So Santi Gimenez for sure is a player who is interesting for Tottenham, but also for many other clubs around Europe, and this is why decisions will be made in the next months.”

<h2>Santiago Giménez finishes hat-trick in Feyenoord game vs Ajax</h2>



Some suggested that the Eredivisie award Feyenoord the victory. Yet, the match resumed behind closed doors in the 56th minute on Wednesday. Giménez quickly added a third goal to complete his hat-trick in the 59th minute of the match. The victory takes Feyenoord up to third in the Eredivisie table, while Ajax slips to 14th.



Giménez now leads the Dutch top flight with nine total goals. All of these scores have occurred in the Mexican’s last five league matches with Feyenoord. <h5>Arsenal may turn to Giménez as plan B</h5>

However, the north London club could very well balk at the price tag currently on the star striker. There are suggestions that the Bees will ask for at least $73 million for the currently suspended center forward.



This could force the Gunners to look to Giménez. The Mexico international just joined the Dutch side last summer from <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/cruz-azul-tv-schedule/">Cruz Azul</a> in a deal worth around $6 million. Nevertheless, Feyenoord will certainly want to either hold on to the striker or ask for significantly more money.
