
<p>Brazilian club <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/flamengo-tv-schedule-for-viewers-in-the-united-states/">Flamengo</a> has announced the hiring of head coach Tite. The manager previously worked with a host of teams during his career. Nevertheless, his most recent job was with the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/nations/brazil-national-team-tv-schedule/">Brazil</a> national team. Tite’s new contract at Flamengo, however, is not exactly a long-term move. The coach has signed a deal with the club that lasts just over one year.</p>



<p>“Flamengo announced on Monday night (October 9th) the hiring of coach Tite,” the club <a href="https://www.flamengo.com.br/noticias/futebol/tite-e-o-novo-tecnico-do-flamengo" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">revealed</a> in an official statement. “The former commander of the Brazilian team signed a contract with Rubro-Negro until December 2024. He arrives to take over the team in this final stretch of <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/brasileirao-tv-schedule-and-streaming-links/">Brasileirão</a> and throughout the season next year.”</p>

<h5>Coach is bringing five former Brazil assistants to new club</h5>



<p>Along with the arrival of Tite, the coach will also bring multiple personnel along for the move to Flamengo. Matheus Bachi, Cléber Xavier and César Sampaio have joined as assistant coaches. Fábio Mahseredjian (physical trainer) and Lucas Oliveira (performance analyst) have also moved to the club as well. All five assistants previously worked with Tite with the Brazil national team.</p>



<p>Tite has been out of work since Brazil was knocked out of the 2022 World Cup by <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/nations/croatia-national-team-tv-schedule/">Croatia</a> in December. However, the coach will now be in charge of Flamengo’s next league match against Cruzeiro on October 19th. He is set to be the fourth different coach to take charge of the club since the current campaign began.</p>



<h2>Tite has winning experience to help get Flamengo back on track</h2>



<p>Flamengo, one of the most popular clubs in Brazil, is enduring a fairly difficult year. They were previously knocked out of the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/copa-libertadores-tv-schedule/">Copa Libertadores</a> by Paraguayan side Olimpia. The Rubro-Negro also currently sits fifth in the Brazilian top-flight table, 11 points behind leaders <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/botafogo-tv-schedule-for-us-viewers/">Botafogo</a>.</p>



<p>Nevertheless, club brass will hope that Tite can work his magic to help salvage the season. The Brazilian coach previously collected trophies with fellow top teams Gremio, Internacional and Corinthians. In fact, he guided the latter club to a Copa Libertadores triumph and a <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/club-world-cup-tv-schedule-streaming-links/">Club World Cup</a> title in 2012. </p>

Flamengo hires former Brazil boss Tite as new head coach

Brazilian top flight side Flamengo has announced the hiring of head coach Tite. The manager previously coached the Brazil national team.


<p>On Thursday, Brazilian club Flamengo terminated the contract of their manager Jorge Sampaoli. The team failed to secure victory in the Copa do Brasil over the weekend.</p>



<p>The Argentine manager felt the heat to perform well with <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/flamengo-tv-schedule-for-viewers-in-the-united-states/">Flamengo</a>, Brazil’s most popular team. When they failed to win the Brazilian Cup in a two-legged final, his departure was all but certain.</p>



<p>Through its various social media outlets, the club expressed gratitude to Sampaoli and best wishes for his professional future.</p>



<h5>Flamengo are currently eighth in Brazil</h5>



<p>Sampaoli spent previous managerial stops with Argentina, <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/sampaoli-sacked-by-sevilla-after-poor-performances-20230321-WST-423968.html">Sevilla</a> and <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/2022/07/01/sampaoli-leaves-marseille-speaking-of-differences-with-club-bosses/">Marseille</a>. He only arrived at the Rio de Janeiro club in April. His contract expires in 2024.</p>



<p>Since joining the Rubro-Negro, the 63-year-old met adversity. Earlier in the season, Flamengo also lost to Olimpia of Paraguay in the Round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. The defending champions’ loss stung much more knowing that this year’s championship game will be played at Maracanã Stadium.</p>

<p>After 24 games, they have slipped to eighth position in Brazil’s top division. They are 11 points behind the top and local Rio rivals, Botafogo.</p>



<h2>Flamengo targets Tite as successor to Sampaoli</h2>



<p>His potential replacement has already been the subject of speculation in the local media. Former Brazil coach <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/tite-resigns-from-brazil-after-shock-world-cup-exit-20221209-WST-411832.html">Tite</a> is the leading candidate to manage Flamengo. Formerly at Corinthians, Tite took over the Brazilian national team in 2016.</p>



<p>However, he was fired after the squad failed to advance beyond the quarterfinals at the World Cup for the second time in a row. However, Tite has already said that he does not want to coach Brazilian clubs and is instead actively seeking employment opportunities outside of Brazil.</p>



<p>But he may give in to the lure of attempting to right the ship at Brazil’s most prominent club, according to a report from <a href="https://www.espn.co.uk/football/story/_/id/38514923/flamengo-fire-coach-jorge-sampaoli-eye-ex-brazil-boss-tite" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ESPN Brasil</a>.</p>

Less than a week after Jorge Sampaoli's failed bid to win a trophy with Flamengo, the Brazilian club sacked the coach on Thursday.


<p>Former Brazil head coach, Tite has reportedly agreed to be the next coach of Orlando City in MLS.</p>



<p>Fans and devotees of the beautiful game in the United States would be anticipating great things with Tite being in discussions to join Orlando City. After all, his time as a manager featured stops at major clubs in Brazilian soccer. Recently, he <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/tite-resigns-from-brazil-after-shock-world-cup-exit-20221209-WST-411832.html">managed Brazil in the FIFA World Cup</a>. He helped the five-time World Cup winners to the 2019 Copa America. However, his two World Cup experiences failed to <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/croatia-beat-brazil-on-penalties-as-goalkeeper-stars-20221209-WST-411802.html">progress beyond the quarterfinals</a>. Now, the experienced manager is free to pursue new opportunities and challenges in the United States.</p>

<h2>Tite could soon lead Orlando City</h2>

<p>The prospect of Tite coaching in <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/mls-tv-schedule/">Major League Soccer (MLS)</a> is exciting. It allows the coach to work in one of the world’s most promising and rising soccer leagues. The American league has been successful in acquiring top-tier football players. For example, Lionel Messi has brought new life to the league in the 2023 campaign. The addition of Tite only elevates the profile further.</p>



<p>Corinthians encouraged the 62-year-old to remain in Brazil. Tite has a superb history with the Brazilian club. Yet, the coach ultimately decided to pursue opportunities elsewhere. After the World Cup in Qatar, Tite has links with several clubs from across the globe. Glamengo, Wolves, Al-Hilal, Fenerbahce and Olympiacos were just a few. Negotiations failed to meaningfully progress.</p>



<p>In an exclusive interview with the English press this month, the coach said he was ready to return to the pitch. He said he was looking for “a new challenge”.</p>



<h5>Orlando is no strangers to Brazilians in squad</h5>



<p>The Orlando City team, one of the main rivals of Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, has Brazilians like Felipe Martins, Junior Urso, Rafael Santos and Antonio Carlos in the squad. The <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/tv/inter-miami-v-orlando-coverage-plans-for-messi-in-leagues-cup-20230801-WST-446887.html">two Florida teams face each other</a> this Wednesday for the round of 16 of the Leagues Cup.</p>

<p>Brazil’s <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/croatia-beat-brazil-on-penalties-as-goalkeeper-stars-20221209-WST-411802.html">loss on penalties</a> to Croatia at the 2022 World Cup marked the end of an era. As Marquinhos’ penalty hit the post and the Croatian team celebrated in front of a stunned Al Rayyan crowd, dreams were killed. Brazil, which entered the tournament as the favorites, was not as mighty as believed. A remarkably human side with alien expectations was not the best. </p>



<p>Brazil’s early exit brought harsh consequences. Domestic media criticized and villainized the team, calling the coaching staff donkeys. It slammed the Brazilian blunders that led to Bruno Petkovic’s 117th-minute goal. <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/tite-resigns-from-brazil-after-shock-world-cup-exit-20221209-WST-411832.html">Tite, the head coach since 2016, resigned</a>.</p>



<h5>The impact of Tite</h5>



<p>Brazil without Tite will look very different. When Tite took the job, the team looked very different. A Dunga-led side was still recovering from that game and had experienced big disappointments in the last two Copa Americas.</p>



<p>But Tite’s impact was immediate. Brazil immediately went seven games without conceding a goal and a nine-game win streak. They had just one loss in 26 games during a 673-day stretch.</p>

<p>Under Tite, Brazil looked special. It differed from the raw talent of Brazil entering each World Cup. His side has played some of the best-attacking soccer Brazil has seen since the Ro-Ro duo that plagued defenses at the 2002 World Cup. Tite had Brazil playing seamlessly, even though each player had a specific role on the pitch. They are the opposite of rigid. If Tite continued with the team, they would likely win another Copa America and contend for the 2026 World Cup.</p>



<p>But again, it was just an if. As Tite confirmed in late February 2022, and reinforced after the defeat, Tite would resign after the World Cup, regardless of how his team did.</p>



<p>“I have no reason to lie here,” Tite said after the loss to Croatia. “I don’t want to win anyway. I’ve won everything in my career, the only thing missing is the World Cup.”</p>



<h5>Prestige and impatience</h5>



<p>To understand what Brazil is missing, you must know Tite’s predecessors. Before the former Corinthians boss came around, Brazil did not have a gifted tactician. Rather, it was ordinary title-winning Brazilian coaches.</p>



<p>Not only do his predecessors show the depth, or rather shallowness, of the Brazilian coaching pool. They also demonstrate how tough it is to keep a Brazilian in charge of the national team. The five coaching stints since Luiz Felipe Scolari after the 2002 World Cup win show the CBF’s impatience that prevent Brazil from winning a World Cup without a generational pool of talent, an issue that could use a foreign coach.</p>



<h2>Lack of a foreign coach in Brazil</h2>



<p>Carlos Alberto Parreira lives in lore for leading Brazil to a World Cup in 1994. His second stint was forgettable. Despite winning the 2004 Copa America, the Confederations Cup in 2005, and all three group-stage games in the 2006 World Cup, Brazil collapsed in the quarter-finals against eventual finalists France.</p>



<p>In 2006, the CBF replaced Parreira with Dunga, even though he had no coaching experience beforehand. Surprisingly, he led Brazil to a Copa America title in 2007 and the Confederations Cup in 2009. Despite his success, he was fired after the 2010 World Cup. That was another quarterfinal exit to an eventual finalist in the Netherlands. He was widely criticized for not selecting Neymar or Alexandre Pato. Plus, his naturally defensive playstyle did not suit the flair of Brazil. </p>



<p>That brought in Mano Menezes, a coach known for successes at Gremio and Corinthians. Menezes was not the CBF’s first choice. Yet, he was good enough to land the job in 2010. Brazil’s aging core yielded considerable patience from the CBF so Menezes could rebuild. Perhaps that explains Brazil’s mediocre finish in the 2011 Copa America, as they lost in the quarter-finals to Paraguay on penalties. A final loss to Mexico in the Olympics only increased complaints. Still, his eventual sacking was controversial. The team was in good form, but Menezes’s tactics resembled those of Dunga. </p>



<p>For the 2014 World Cup, Luiz Felipe Scolari returned to Brazil. Scolari was the fan-favorite to coach the side. He was the head coach the last time Brazil won the World Cup in 2002. Brazil won the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and made the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup. Regardless, the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/ghost-of-7-1-germany-mauling-still-haunts-brazil-tite-20180326-CMS-236459.html">Mineirazo</a> was enough to make him hugely unpopular and get him fired.</p>



<p>That brought back another familiar face in Dunga, but his second stint was no better than his first. Despite a big winning streak, his side lost to Paraguay in the 2015 Copa America on penalties. The Copa America Centenario got even worse, as Brazil fell in the group stage for the first time since 1987. Dunga’s refusal to pick Thiago Silva made him unpopular, and the disaster in 2016 was enough to drop him from the spot. That brings us to the era of Tite.</p>



<h5>The Brazilian coaches’ loop</h5>



<p>On most occasions, the CBF sacked managers after one big disaster. This makes having a long-term vision extremely difficult. At the same time, it cultivates a level of fear and stress that qualified coaches want to avoid.</p>



<p>Patience and continuity pay off. For example, a number of coaches with relative success over recent years have been at their posts for extended periods. Aliou Cissé in Senegal, Deschamps in France, Southgate in England can assert. All coaches have suffered setbacks. But, the federation stood with them, protecting that long-term vision and easing stress off the manager.</p>



<p>Combine that with Brazil being insistent on avoiding a foreign coach, and there is an endless loop. This is not exclusive to Brazil Italy, Spain and Germany regularly only use domestic nationals to lead the squad. However, this policy has hurt Brazil over recent years.</p>



<h5>Pride and ignorance</h5>



<p>There’s the prideful “we don’t need any help” argument presented by Rivaldo.</p>

I believe we have coaches capable of taking over the national team at this moment and doing a good job. <p>There’s a cautious approach that acknowledges Brazil’s tactical inferiority, presented by CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues.</p>

<p>Either way, the long-held tradition of picking coaches solely from Brazil seems hugely controversial, regardless of whether it would help Brazil. It seems the CBF is leaning toward picking someone like Carlo Ancelotti or Pep Guardiola for the job. But, the players and fans would not like the decision.</p>



<h5>The search for the spot</h5>

<p>The search for a spot as Brazil’s head coach still rages on. Guardiola and Ancelotti are the candidates for the role, seeing as there is discontentment at Real Madrid and Manchester City. However, there are still rumors of another home-based coach getting another pick.</p>



<p>Palmeiras’ Abel Ferreira is a name in the race, with Fluminense’s ball-possessing manager Fernando Diniz and Fenerbahce’s Jorge Jesus in the mix. Ramon Menezes, the manager for the Brazil U20s, could be a candidate thanks to the team’s victory in the South American U20 Championship. However, a recent 2-1 loss to Morocco will not help his case.</p>



<p>As the sun sets on Brazil under Tite, it’s time to look towards the future with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon. When the Seleção takes the pitch against Bolivia and Peru in September, a new coach will be appointed. It will be intriguing to see whether Brazil breaks free of tradition in one of its most urgent moments and hire a foreign coach, or whether the decades-long streak will continue.</p>

<p>Carlo Ancelotti could be set to become the next <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/nations/brazil-national-team-tv-schedule/">Brazil national team</a> head coach. According to a report by <em><a href="https://www.espn.com.br/futebol/selecao-brasileira/artigo/_/id/11601823/cbf-tem-sim-ancelotti-tecnico-real-madrid-assumir-selecao-brasileira" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ESPN Brazil</a></em>, the current <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/real-madrid-tv-schedule/">Real Madrid</a> manager has verbally agreed to take on the job. The Italian coach is currently under contract with the reigning Champions League winners until the summer of 2024.</p>



<h2>Ancelotti reportedly offered three-year deal for Brazil job</h2>



<p>Nevertheless, the report claims that Ancelotti would start with Brazil after the current Real Madrid campaign is completed. The contract with the South American giants supposedly runs until after the 2026 World Cup. Canada, Mexico and the United States host the tournament.</p>



<p>Real Madrid currently have three key players in the squad that are Brazilian. Eder Militao, Rodrygo, and Vinicius Junior all have significant experience in the Brazil national team. The trio even featured in Brazil’s World Cup squad in Qatar. Ancelotti also supposedly has a close relationship with these players as well.</p>



<h5>Patience in their coaching search</h5>



<p>Brazil has been searching for a new coach for some time now. Former boss Tite <a href="https://www.espn.com.au/football/brazil-bra/story/4602551/brazil-coach-tite-leaving-after-2022-world-cup" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">revealed last February</a> that he would be leaving his role as head coach following the 2022 World Cup. Brazil entered the tournament as one of the favorites. However, Croatia stunned the South Americans in the quarterfinals. Tite confirmed his departure from the team following the loss.</p>



<p>Brazilian Football Confederation president Ednaldo Rodrigues gave an update on the search for a new coach on Wednesday. Although he obviously did not mention Ancelotti by name, Rodrigues did make some interesting comments on the situation.</p>



<p>“We respect all those that we want to be part of a technical commission for the national team, but also respecting their clubs, their presidents, so that we can make contact, talk”, <a href="https://www.espn.com.br/futebol/selecao-brasileira/artigo/_/id/11593655/presidente-cbf-questoes-avancadas-substituto-tite-selecao-o-que-nao-quer-jeito-nenhum" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">said</a> Rodrigues.</p>



<p>“We are aware of the schedule for the&nbsp;2026&nbsp;World Cup, but we work with our feet on the ground, to choose the person who will lead the Brazilian team.&nbsp;That he fulfills his cycle and that he is not just an occasional coach who is interim.”</p>

<p>Despite the reports, Ancelotti himself has denied any agreement with Brazil. The coach was asked about the news on Friday. “I don’t know anything about this. I don’t even know what they reported in Brazil,” claimed the coach. “I’m Real Madrid coach. My contract is until June 2024.”</p>



<p>The national team, however, appears calm and patient in their search for a new head coach. Ancelotti has been linked with the job before and team officials seem willing to wait for their man.</p>

The Brazil national soccer team is reportedly confident of naming Carlo Ancelotti as their next head coach, with rumors of a three-year deal.

<p>Tite, who coached Brazil for six years dating back to 2016, resigned from the position after the <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/news/croatia-beat-brazil-on-penalties-as-goalkeeper-stars-20221209-WST-411802.html">Seleção&nbsp;lost to Croatia</a> in the World Cup quarterfinals.</p>



<p>Brazil only lost on penalties to the 2018 runner-up on penalties. In fact, Tite’s squad had the lead with just five minutes to play in extra time. However, this marks Brazil’s second quarterfinal exit from the World Cup under the leadership of Tite. In 2018, Brazil lost to a strong Belgium side that would go on to finish third. </p>



<p>The highlight under Tite’s guise was winning the 2019 Copa America. Yet, the more memorable events are the losses in the quarterfinals to a pair of European teams. Of course, the struggles against European opposition for Brazil date back to before Tite. The loss to Croatia represents the fifth-straight loss to European opposition in the knockout stages at the World Cup.</p>



<p>Upon his resignation, Tite said he wanted to get one full World Cup cycle with Brazil. “It is very difficult,” <a href="https:\/\/www.bbc.com/sport/football/63923751?at_medium=RSS&amp;at_campaign=KARANGA" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tite told reporters</a> after the game.</p>



<p>“The cycle ended and I said that one and a half years ago. I needed to have the full cycle and now I have the full cycle and have followed the moments.”</p>

<h2>Tite leaves Brazil after World Cup penalties loss to Croatia</h2>



<p>Brazil were strong in the majority of games under Tite. Not only was the Canary Yellow side the clear favorite to win the competition, but they amassed 61 wins in 81 coaches under the leadership of Tite.</p>



<p>In World Cup qualifying, for instance, Brazil won 14 out of 17 games. It drew the other three games for an unbeaten record in a tough qualifying spot.</p>



<p>Tite did mention that he would step down after this tournament regardless of what happened with Brazil. Yet, Neymar and his teammates wanted to give Tite more games in charge.</p>
