Spurs-Man City is second most-watched game in US history

Sunday’s game between Spurs and Man City was the second most-watched Premier League game in US soccer history.

A total of 1.78 million watched the game across NBC, NBC Sports digital properties, Peacock and Telemundo. On the NBC network and Peacock combined, the viewing number was 1.5 million. Telemundo added an additional 288,000 viewers.

Coupled with the record 1.9 million viewers for Arsenal-Manchester United on Jan. 22, NBC Sports in a two-week stretch has registered the two most-watched live Premier League matches in US history.

Led by Peacock, NBC Sports Digital registered an Average Minute Audience (AMA) of 358,000 viewers for Tottenham-Manchester City. That’s the second-best ever for a simul-streamed Premier League match, behind only Arsenal-Manchester United on Jan. 22 (510,000).

Earlier this season, Peacock’s exclusive Tottenham-Arsenal match on Jan. 15 delivered an AMA of 808,000 viewers – the best streaming audience ever in the US for a Premier League match.

Spurs-Man City points to promising news

One of the major reasons why NBC Sports is reaching more viewers is due to the two games being televised on NBC network on a Sunday. Usually, the only times Premier League games are featured on the NBC network is on Saturdays from 12:30PM to 2:30PM ET.

World Soccer Talk has learned that Premier League games are going to be featured more often on NBC in that time window in coming seasons. According to a NBC Sports spokesperson, it won’t be every week but it’ll be more often that it was previously.

With the news that select Premier League games are going to be shown in 4K via Peacock, this is more good news for soccer fans in the United States.

For the season thus far, NBC Sports is averaging 524,000 viewers per TV match window. That’s an increase of 4% from last season at this point. The 2021-22 season was the second-most watched in US TV history.
